Culag Community Woodland Trust - All Abilities Path at Leitir Easaidh, Little Assynt.
The All Abilities Path at Leitir Easaidh, Little Assynt The pathway was completed in 2005 and officially opened on May 6th 2006 by Jamie Andrew, after much hard work by the Culag Community Woodland Trust. Leaving from the new Leitir Easaidh Car Park near Loch Assynt Lodge (NC 174264), the pathway, which is suitable for wheelchairs as well as those of limited mobility leads to two lochs along a well-made and carefully graded trackway. At each of the two lochs there is a picnic area with compost loo, a shelter and a jetty which gives access to a boat for fishing. There are regular resting places along the way. The total length of the path is 1 ½ kilometres or about 1 mile. Beyond the second picnic area the path has been extended to a viewpoint. This part is steeper than the main route, but the views are well worth the extra effort. A link path, not all ability, is to be constructed to join this new pathway to the longer Way-marked Path from the Little Assynt Field Carpark (NC 155250) . The booklet "Little Assynt Estate – Connecting People to the Land" gives full details of both paths and the Culag Woods and is available from the local outlets and from CCWT, 1 Old Coach House, Lochinver IV27 4LE (01573 844368). Maps of the routes are contained in the booklet which is excellent value at £3.50 plus P&P. A visit to the new path in June 2006 found it in excellent condition with a first rate even surface and all the facilities fully working.
