In June 2005, the community of Assynt successfully purchased the £44,400 acre Glencanisp and Drumrunie estates, in a community land buy-out made possible through the Scottish Land Reform Act. The Group meets in the Assynt Leisure Centre on Wednesday evenings between 8pm and 9pm. These are informal games aimed at having fun and keeping fit. Historic Assynt was set up in the late 1990's to raise funds for the consolidation of the ruins of Ardvreck Castle and Calda House, and the restoration of the Old Kirk and MacLeod Burial Vault in Inchnadamph. The Lochinver Wildlife Watch Group is open to all children ages eight or over. We meet every fortnight, on Wednesdays, at 6pm in the Community Room of the Village Hall until 8pm. We have about twenty kids coming on average. The Lochinver Wildlife Watch group is affiliated to Scottish Wildlife Watch and in 2002 we won the Scottish Wildlife Watch Group of the Year award. The All Abilities Path at Leitir Easaidh, Little Assynt The pathway was completed in 2005 and officially opened on May 6th 2006 by Jamie Andrew, after much hard work by the Culag Community Woodland Trust.
